Mihi Whakatau ki a Manaiakalani

The impact has been massive, professionally and personally. I feel more confident about presenting mahi using google to my students and other colleagues. I always have help around me, whether it be staff support, student support, DFI support. The journey has made life for me in the technology world more up to date and ahead of the game in a lot of ways. I find myself sharing this knowledge and information to a lot of my teaching friends outside of our kura and hear the excitement in my voice. So I am very grateful for this professional development opportunity

I appreciated the early sessions where I was able to go back and sort my google files out. Knowing that I can just put all 2020 files into one file and away was so satisfying. Thus all files for 2021 are in a more organized and accessible way. I always set up new mahi in the correct file firstly, and name the mahi appropriately (not untitled), and I know where everything is and what is in each file. I have also implemented this system into the classroom for the students to practice. This makes my teaching life much easier to follow up with student mahi. Other features of Manaiakalani have also made my planning and teaching presentations exciting and relevant to the students interest and engagement, where mahi is more interactive and visually pleasing. I am a firm believer in the pedagogy, LEARN, CREATE, SHARE.

Īpapa, hanga tapuwaewae

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Create: I learnt to use another device and create a piece that shows the history of my activity online. I appreciated the pictures and features that were already set up for us.
I learnt how frustrating it is to use a chromebook, and that it must be as frustrating for my students. So I will be more patient when guiding them through our class mahi and systems.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I have an understanding of the frustration the tamariki go through when working in classroom.

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

Understanding the dynamics of using a chromebook. Learning the features of the chromebook and going through the same issues and journey on chromebook as my students do.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

Not all devices work the same way or have the same features, and that I need to be familiar with the chromebook as this is what my students work with, and work is quite demanding at times. Being patient and understanding and supportive with students in class.

Mahi Rapirapi

Ngā Mahi Hangarau Matihiko

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

I learnt more about Manaiakalani pedagogy, in terms of digital technology. There is a Hangarau Matihiko version that is not the same as the English version. I will need to research and ask more questions to understand both areas more clearly.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

I learnt about the different coding games for classroom activities.  I thought Scratch was easy, BUT it was not.  So more practice will help me be more confident when using it and showing the students.  I will let students to create their own with their own discoveries.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners? Learnt about Scratch, Hour of Code and Mine crafting.  Now I will allow these three mahi to be used.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?  I will give it a go with my mokopuna and high school student.  Scratch and Minecraft.

Coding is all good!

Enabling Access

Time to reflect and share with colleagues

  • What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Learnt heaps about sites and set up. I took some time on the home page, but hopefully it will get easier with practice and time. Sharing is an important part of Manaiakalani pedagogy.

This what I worked on most of the afternoon. I used shapes to link to the marau, in relation to whenu. If definately helps to have a plan before starting on the site.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? Being more prepared with a plan and information on how to do the niti griti things, like saving drawings in download as png.

  • What did I learn that could be used with my learners?  I am excited to show the students our soon to be new work site for class. I will also create cool pictures to use for their blogs and access to their own sites.

  • What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? Being more planned and organised. Have a good plan set up before starting something. Making sure I have all the resources ad skills necessary for the plan.

Ngā mahi akoranga ā Manaiakalani i te wānanga 3

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy? Learnt more features of google and other online skills in regards to the method, "Learn, create, share". I learnt how to make a slide using 'Pick a Part'; I learn make a animated film using google slides; and I also learnt to save a playlist on youtube through my own channel; we looked at google drawings. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional? So many things I learnt this day that could improve my confidence and compitency in the profession. Just so many I dont really know where to start. But definately will continue to practice with each feature and hopefully i will gain some clear idea of the uses and get more creative. What did I learn that could be used with my learners? All these same features on google drive I can definately see all learners having use for, its just a matter of giving them the option and opportunity. Some features I have already introduced on a need to know basis, for example: gifs for google slide work. What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life? My personal life is my professional life so all features will. Using these features also helps me improve my kete of knowledge, intelligence, and tools to further extend the learning of other students and adults in my environment.
