Tohu Ōrite - Equals Sign
I had followed through with the plan to share the mahi of the equals sign. Equals sign is the same as the other side, ōrite. The slides and activities that were shared at MPI session 5 help me show the students what equals looked like and how to show that understanding. In the class I used the scales to show the balance of the same as, even though the object looked different that they can be the same. Here are some photos of our mahi.

Kia ora Lucy, this is such lovely mahi! I really enjoyed seeing the way the scales brought ōrite to life for the learners, and the clear engagement in the photos is fantastic. Ka paI!! I especially love how you’ve connected the hands-on experiences with the maths language and then carried it through into their recording in books - such a strong connection between the physical, verbal and written understanding of equals.
